WHERE OUR ROOTS BEGIN
It Started in the Fields.
Jack Dooling Wishart (1925–2005) represents the agricultural legacy at the root of our story.
Jack served as a Chief Officer in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He and his wife, Maxine “Maggie” Brown, began farming tomatoes in Dade County in the early 1960s. Over the following decades, he expanded his agricultural operations, co-owned a canning plant and opened a packing house in 1974.
He named the operation Pine Island Farms in Princeton, Florida. For more than 30 years, Pine Island Farms supplied Publix with fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes. His work supported families and workers throughout the region and reflected a lasting commitment to agriculture.
“Fresh Since 1965” honors the agricultural legacy that came before The Berry Farm.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
What If the Farm Could Grow More Than Food?
Karl Wiegandt saw an opportunity for agriculture to offer families something increasingly difficult to find in Miami: room to slow down, be outside and experience something together.
The vision grew beyond a traditional farm stand into a place where families could gather, children could roam freely and generations could reconnect with agriculture, the outdoors and one another.

The Berry Farm opened its gates in 2020, bringing a new agritourism vision to life on South Florida agricultural land. What began as an idea for a place where families could gather, reconnect and experience agriculture has grown into the farm guests know today.
